If desired, use lukewarm to warm water to lubricate the speculum. If necessary, use a very small amount of water-soluble gel lubricant on the outside surfaces of the speculum.

Do not use excessive amounts of lubricant because it may compromise the test and possibly lead to an unsatisfactory test result.
